Raffaele Girondi
Raffaele Girondi is not mentioned in schools, perhaps with the exception of Barletta, his hometown, where he was born on January 2, 1873, but he was much more than a talented enthusiast who experimented with the art of painting.
The meagre news that we were able to find about him, tells us that he was a pupil of Gianbattista Calò, who later studied in Naples and Rome, where he practiced his art by portraying some of the most significant places of the capital, and then settled in Paris, where he became an appreciated portrait painter and fresco painter of numerous public and private buildings.
He died in the French capital on 26 April 1911 at the age of 38.
In Barletta he bequeathed important frescoes in several churches (Purgatorio and San Gaetano in particular) and, thanks to his sister Carmela, an impressive number of paintings and drawings acquired by the City, now exhibited in the beautiful museum of the Swabian castle.
